This site is dedicated to the memory of John Michael Hastings.

John, youngest son of Albert and Alice, was born on 21st June 1934 in Hankham, Sussex. He grew up in Polegate, attending schools in Hailsham before completing his apprenticeship as an Electrician in Pevensey Bay. He carried out his National Service in the Royal Air Force as an Electrical Technician at RAF Benson. He worked for several electrical companies in Eastbourne before setting up his own company - J M Hastings Electrical Service.

It was whilst working in Eastbourne that he met Inga in 1964 and they were married the following year. Their eldest daughter Maria arrived in 1966, followed not so closely by their youngest daughter Sandra in 1975! John and Inga raised their daughters in Old Town, Eastbourne and after the girls had flown the nest, they moved to their current home.

As a family they spent many happy holidays in Europe and later further afield. John especially enjoyed visiting Switzerland, Germany, Italy, Hong Kong and Bermuda. Many of his long haul trips were accompanying his daughters while they worked. He was also fond of going on holiday with friends, visiting family abroad and more recently he discovered the joy of cruise holidays with friends.

As a young man John played snooker, later swapping his snooker cue for a badminton racket. Together with Inga, he played for many years in badminton clubs (only stopping this year) and formed wonderful friendships with their fellow badminton players.

Family and friendships were very important to John. He was a devoted husband, loving father and proud Grandpa to Annalise, Melissa, Ryan and Ben. He also had an exceptional relationship with his son-in-laws, Gary and Leigh. He delighted in the many family gatherings and occasions and was especially thrilled that he and Inga celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary this summer.

The family would like to say that as sad as we are all feeling, we should remember that this is also a celebration of a good man's life, well lived with so many wonderful memories and achievements to be justifiably proud of, rather than a mourning of his passing. With this in mind, we would welcome any stories, photos and memories that you wish to share with us here on his tribute page.
